With a gift for expressing himself through melodies and an undying love for his queen Christina Aguilera, Dominic Chin is no stranger to the local music scene. It’s been 10 eventful years since he first started covering songs on YouTube before he eventually moved on to writing his own music as a gateway to expressing the harder-to-articulate feelings.

Since then, he’s been putting out bangers such as ‘SHY’, ‘HERE’, and his most recent release, ‘AWARE’. Dominic has also garnered over 9.2k subscribers on YouTube and a total viewership of 1.3 million views. Fans can look forward to an all-new song, ‘BETTER’, which comes out next Friday, 5 June, and trust us, you’re going to want to catch this one.

We know that Dominic is loved and known for his heartfelt music, but we personally also adore his gorgeous album covers that get us feeling a certain type of way.

This week, we sat down (virtually) with Dominic as he shares the five soundtracks that make up his life.

Tell us your name, and how you’d describe yourself to someone whom you’re meeting for the first time.

Hi my name is Dominic, a local singer-songwriter & also a full time performing artiste with the Music and Drama company! And I love Christina Aguilera.

Why would you consider this playlist to be significant to you?

This playlist is a spectacular summary of me as a musician—I love a good pop song, sometimes I’m in a mood for a chill romantic song, sometimes I love the soul & harmonies in an R&B.

I believe that when you learn to appreciate music as it is, not in the different genres, you open your life to so much more experiences. Another reason why this playlist is significant to me is because of the fact that I am a big romance guy & I love it when songs use powerful lyrics to bring across a message.

‘A Song For You‘ is one of the best love songs I believe ever written & I always loved performing it. This playlist is a mixture of fun, love, and artistry.

Pick one track and tell me your fondest/most interesting memory of it.

Though I stan Ms Aguilera till my dying day, I gotta say Born This Way is one of my favourite songs. I remember hearing it for the first time and the bridge just hit me like a wrecking ball.

Beneath all that synth & beats, the words “I’m on the right track, baby I was born to be brave/I was born to survive” were so powerful.

There’s no answer to why I suffer the way I do with mental health & life’s circumstances, but one thing certain, I was born to be brave and I was born to survive. It was electrifying hearing those words.

If I had asked you this question 10 years ago, what is the one track that your then-self would have picked as your favourite?

Perhaps A Song For You? It is a jazz piece by the legendary Herbie Hancock & Legentina Godguilera (a fan named Christina that).

And like mentioned previously, it’s one of the best love songs every written, not just lyrically but because of the sheer craftsmanship & talent of both artists on that song—damn it blows me away every time. His piano playing and her singing are essentially just talking to each other in the song and I live for that.
