Singapore Art Week 2018 hosts a multitude of works by creatives from different fields all around the region, and if you’re not savvy in the intriguing world of creativity, here are three works by Singaporean creatives you won’t want to miss.
They show a different perspective of Singapore’s culture, environmental, and social aspects through the power of visual storytelling starting from 17 January to 11 February 2018.
1. All In Her Day’s Work – Charmaine Poh
Through documentary storytelling, Charmaine Poh’s All In Her Day’s Work exhibition explores females in the different industries in Singapore, showcasing the persistent traditional practices of how women should speak, appear and act.
Her work addresses the pressure and the performativity of gender, based on the narratives of working women from the mentioned industries.

2. SEA STATE 9: Proclamation – Charles Lim
Stemming from his research, Sea State 9: Proclamation is a presentation of selected pieces from the final chapter of Charles Lim’s project, where it covers the complex understanding of Singapore’s massive process of land reclamation.
The exhibition looks into the complexity, legal and bureaucratic ingenuity process by which ‘new’ land comes into being.

3. 5 Rehearsals Of A Wedding – Kray Chen
A new project by Kray Chen presents a tongue-in-cheek look at Singaporean Chinese wedding rituals, which is Commonly seen as a rite of passage.
Titled 5 Rehearsals of a Wedding, it is a quest to understand the anxieties and behaviours that are associated with weddings in today’s day and age, in turn enabling audiences to reflect, make fun and appreciate one’s own habits and behaviours.
