“Sugar, spice and everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girls.” If you don’t know how the rest of that goes, clearly you have missed out on one of the iconic cartoons of the 90s.
What’s not to love about The Powerpuff Girls? They are tough, taking on bad guys at least twice their size and still dealt with normal kid problems just like the rest of us.
The series created by Craig McCraken ran from 1998 till 2005 and the “The Powerpuff Girls” movie was released in 2002. While there was a reboot of the beloved crime-fighting series in 2016 on Cartoon Network, for a 90s baby like me—it doesn’t ever feel the same.
Because we just can’t get enough of The Powerpuff Girls (I even have the Monopoly set), a live-action series by the CW is in the works. I know what you’re thinking, not another “Titans” or worse an Avatar: Legend of Aang fiasco. Well, this new Powerpuff Girls series see the girls as disillusioned and jaded twenty-somethings that resent their lost childhood due to crime-fighting.
A promising and interesting storyline for sure, one that I hope will pan out. The writers for the show include Heather Regnier who is credited for the success of the “Veronica Mars” revival, “SMILF,” “iZombie,” “Falling Skies,” and “Sleepy Hollow.” With Diablo Cody who is the writer for the critically acclaimed “Juno” and slasher flick “Jennifer’s Body”.
Well, finger’s crossed to a reboot that will satisfy us 90s kids and one that is reflective of the times.
