Finally! Danish toy production company, LEGO has recently released LEGO Monkie Kid, based off Sun WuKong (孫悟空), or The Monkey King, and his Journey To The West (西游记). If you’re not familiar, Journey To The West is a legendary 16th century Ming Dynasty Mandarin literary epic and is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.

LEGO Monkie Kid is LEGO’s first Chinese inspired themed toy to be released, and what better way to introduce Chinese themed LEGO than with the legend himself, The Monkey King. LEGO’s Monkie Kid will feature eight different sets, telling an untold chapter of the Monkey King’s journey as he defeats the Demon Bull King and his army of Bull Clones from taking over the city.

This play theme is intergenerational, allowing grandparents, parents, and children to bond over the beloved Monkey King as they build the LEGO together, bringing the toy and its story to life. To ensure accuracies in the portrayal of culture, LEGO took up to two years of development in China, and I think it’s safe to say their research has done them well.

LEGO Monkie Kid collection is now available for purchase through the official LEGO certified store, Bricks World. If you’re running out of things do during CB, why not relive your childhood and grab a set now?
