GE2020: Everything You Need To Know About WP’s First Nine Candidates

In the current rat race that is Singapore’s General Elections, Workers’ Party has been keeping their cards close to their chest, strategically playing them as they go. Just yesterday afternoon, they announced their first four candidates on their social media page and website. Here’s everything you need to know about them⁠—some familiar, some new.

1. Seah Xue Ling, Nicole Rebecca

Credit – The Workers’ Party

  • Age: 33
  • Primary education: CHIJ (Katong) Convent Primary, Tanjong Katong Secondary School, and Victoria Junior College
  • University Education: Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours), National University of Singapore
  • University Scholars’ Programme
  • Occupation: Associate Director at a Multinational marketing group
  • Contested in the 2011 General Election in Marine Parade GRC with another party
  • Married with a one-year old daughter

2. Muhammad Azhar Bin Abdul Latip

  • Age: 33
  • Primary education: Guangyang Primary, Bedok North Primary, Bedok View Secondary School, and Meridian Junior College
  • University Education: Bachelor of Arts (Political Science), National University of Singapore
  • Occupation: Self Employed (Grab driver and running a small business)
  • Divorced with one child

3. Louis Chua Kheng Wee

4. Yee Jenn Jong

  • Contested in Joo Chiat SMC in 2011 and Marine Parade GRC in 2015
  • Appointed a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) in the 12th Parliament

5. Jamus Jerome Lim Chee Wui

6. Ron Tan Jun Yen

9. Dennis Tan Lip Fong

  • Appointed as Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) in the 13th Parliament
  • Served on the Public Petitions Committee of Parliament
