With GE2020 on everyone’s mind, it is key to remember that COVID-19 is still exists in Singapore and we should stay safe and socially responsible in order to effectively combat this novel coronavirus. With that being said, its time folks, we’re getting masks from the government again.
From 29 June onwards, every Singaporean resident can receive a pair of antimicrobial reusable masks. We would be able to collect these masks—from community clubs, community centres, bus interchanges—at any of the 1,200 vending machines island-wide. These masks are part of the StayMasked initiative by the philanthropic arm of state investor Temasek Holdings. This is the fourth time Singapore residents get free masks, we were first given disposable masks twice, followed by the black reusable mask in May 2020.
In order to collect the masks from these vending machines, residents would have to scan the barcode of their government-issued identification, with each barcode eligible for one mask kit with a pair of masks. Make sure to check this website in advance for stock availability from the vending machines, you wouldn’t want to make a trip to collect your masks just to find out that they’ve been fully collected.
These masks are washable up to 30 times and are estimated to last up to two months. These masks are “94 per cent [effective] against the Influenza A virus”, an upgrade from the previous black cloth masks that were issued. Those who wish to purchase more masks can do so by pre-ordering them on the website or through DBS PayLah! from 25 June to 11 July 2020. Payment must be made prior to the collection of the mask. After payment, a QR code is generated for you to collect your masks from the vending machines. Each kit costs S$8.
Price: Free, subsequent kits going for S$8 a kit
