Domestic violence is an issue that is still very much shrouded in shame and stigma in Singapore. What’s worse, is that there was an increase in domestic violence calls during Circuit Breaker and even now, help centres like PAVE and AWARE are receiving a high volume of calls.
We spoke Natalie Song, a domestic violence survivor to help shed some light on this difficult and important issue.
“I would tell people who are going through [domestic violence] to turn it around on its head. Steping away doesn’t mean to lose somebody.
Right? Stepping away might mean to get you stronger.”
If you are someone who is experiencing domestic violence, seek help at these organisations and stop the cycle of violence.
