2020 has been a dull year for all avid runners like me. Many marathons and races have been cancelled or postponed tentatively or indefinitely.
As we wait for the situation for the second half of the year to pick up, some marathon organisers have used virtual platforms as a smart alternative to connect with their fellow runners while keeping fit.
Like other races, the Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon (SLPM) was slated to be held over this weekend, but has since been postponed to 5 and 6 December 2020.
Now, SLPM is holding a virtual race for all runners this weekend on 13 and 14 June 2020. Participants from all around the world are welcome to run any preferred distance ranging from the 2 km Kids Run, 5 km, 10.5 km, 21 km Half Marathon, or 42.165 km Full Marathon.
For all existing SLPM registered runners, entry is free. For new runners who have yet to register for the December race, fret not—you can still join this virtual race at US$3 per person. The proceeds from the virtual race will go to the Kao Kon La Kao Foundation, used to support public healthcare and medical workers in Thailand.
All runners who complete the virtual race stand to win exciting prizes—from luxury hotel stays, spas, and access to golf and lifestyle facilities within Laguna Phuket. However, do remember to complete your races between 13 and 14 June 2020, and submit your results online before 19 June 2020.
What an interesting way to clock your mileage and track your progress for a good cause. Get your running gear ready and sign up now. Registration is open from now until 12 June 2020.
