Picnic Days is a series of gatherings at the Plain Vanilla Flagship store at Tiong Bahru and on 2 September 2017, you can find the Sowing Room pop-up store in a grassy backyard complete with an indoor swing and hammock.
The Sowing Room is a social enterprise that helps abused and at-risk women who have been trafficked into Singapore for labour and sexual exploitation. These once helpless women are taught how to sew and are paid a fair wage for their work while waiting for their court cases to be heard.
Featuring the handiwork of the women from the Sowing Room, Plain Vanilla Home will launch a limited edition range of home textiles made with ethically-sourced fabric. Each meterage has been hand-printed by Australian studio Ink & Spindle in colour ways and is exclusively customised for Plain Vanilla.
The founder of the Sowing Room, Jolene Teo, will also showcase their merchandise, which ranges from tote bags to cosmetic pouches, wet and dry bags, sling bags and small toiletry pouches, sharing the story behind the cause.
Swing by Plain Vanilla and pick out an item for yourself or your family and friends, and make your shopping count for these craftswomen!
