Unlike many other carnivals that come and go after two weeks, the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival will be taking residence at the Marina Bay precinct and will be here to stay until April 2018!
And for that reason alone, it’s being touted as the latest date spot in town. Here are five tips on how to properly execute the perfect date at the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival.
1. Win At The Carnival Games
The games I mention here have been handpicked and carefully curated. As enticing as the prizes are, there are some games you should steer clear away from if you’re on a budget.
I’ve tried all the games and have come up with three tiers to classify them — low chance, medium level and sure-wins.
Low chance games have the best prizes. And when I say best, I mean the biggest and fluffiest plushies in the whole carnival. Some of them come up as big as a metre tall!
There’s one low chance game in particular, where you have to throw and get a ring around the neck of a table full of bottles. It looks easy but I’ve seen many try only to walk away empty-handed.
Unless you have hundreds of dollars to spare, you’ll be better off trying your luck at the medium level and sure-win stalls.
With a certain level of skills and techniques, and if you are good with your hands, a game of darts at a medium level stall could win you a couple of plushies.
Stalls such as darts and good ol‘ fishing are what I call medium level. Although, it would be wise to limit yourself to three tries max to save that few dollars for the sure-win stalls.
The sure-win games are usually straightforward to play, and it’s safe to say that no-one comes out of the carnival empty-handed at these stalls. The prizes are nothing to shout about though.
Look out for this particular stall where all you have to do is hook a goodie bag which contains a prize. If you’re lucky enough to get a star in that bag, you can even swap your normal prize for the mega prize!
2. Hop On Thrilling Rides
Do you want your date to grab you by the arm? Then, go for one of the many thrilling rides that are stationed around the carnival. Start off mild with the Euro Coaster to get your heart rate up. Once you’re ready, then it’s time to kick things up a notch.
The Star Flyer will slowly take you up 35 metres off the ground as you enjoy the view of Marina Bay while feeling the breeze brush across your face. Guys, if your girl is afraid of heights, you know what to do, don’t you?
The Pirate Ship was also a fun ride to hop on, and it can get kind of scary. I always look at this particular ride and think that it isn’t going to be scary, but the fact is that it swings really fast. This ride will definitely get your blood pumping.
After all those rides, your mind and body should be prepped to take on the Mach 5 challenge. It’s possibly the most intimidating ride, towering over the whole carnival at a height of 55 metres.
Going a full 360 degrees and turning you upside-down, the Mach 5 might make you regret your decision to even get on the ride in the first place.
At this point after all the thrill, you wouldn’t know whether it’s the rides or your partner that’s making your heart race.
3. Have A Mini Dinner-Date
It’s a carnival, so of course, you can expect to find a wide variety of food and beverages to satisfy your appetite. Just be careful not to spill your guts when taking one of the rides.
With over 20 food vendors on site, there’s everything from small snacks and desserts, to heavier meals like pastas and burgers. Order a few things to share and have a small dinner-date here!
We had some nachos and a particularly colourful drink. The unicorn-in-a-cup is what dreams (and diabetes) are made of. Seriously though, don’t try to drink it all by yourself; but it sure looks pretty and I guess it’s pretty fun to drink if you share it.
You would probably be spending a good few hours at the carnival, so be sure to refuel with these awesome bites!
4. Take Some Cute Pictures For Your IG Feed
With all the festivities that are happening around you, don’t forget to whip out your camera once in a while and snap some pictures.
With neon signs and vibrant colours at every corner, there are photo ops everywhere.
Don’t forget the food on offer as well – everything has been curated purposefully to be Insta-worthy!
There are even a few photobooth spots scattered throughout the grounds and larger-than-life figures to take photos with. These are free too!
5. Walk Along Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade
With the scenic view of skyscrapers and lights that Marina Bay is known for, it’s perfect timing for a nice conversation as you walk down the bay and prepare to head home after the visit to the carnival.
Take a seat when you’re feeling tired, and as you’re sitting close to each other, maybe it’s time to make your move.
