When we say kebaya, we think of the Singapore Girl. However, this intrinsic part of our local culture is more than just a uniform. Let The Necessary Stage’s production of Kebaya Homies educate you on the significance of this iconic garment that’s so deeply rooted in our Singaporean heritage.
Familiar faces Aidil Mosbit and Siti Khalijah Zainal will bring audiences back in time through a time travel cabaret show. It’s a production fit for both young and old, allowing generations to reminisce the aristocratic significance of the kebaya. Watch as the kebaya’s journey and importance changes over the years and acknowledge how its international influences have turned the kebaya into something we’ll only consider donning during special occasions.
Kebaya Homies will be the highlight at the M1 Fringe Festival in 2020, themed My Country and My People. The show will run from 15 to 19 January 2020 at the Esplanade Annexe Theatre. Tickets are now available via SISTIC or the M1 Fringe Festival website.
