Following the success of previous collaborations, Japan’s two major icons—Hello Kitty and Gundam, have once again combined forces to release 2 Gundam-inspired Hello Kitty Mecha Figures under the Gundam x Hello Kitty: Love & Peace Collection. A Mecha Figure is one that’s typically sculpted after humanoid mobile robots—I don’t know about you, but they remind me strangely of the Bear Brick collectibles that I, too, own a couple of.
Titled ‘Peaceful Figures of Friendship’, the Hello Kitty Mech suits are modelled after the traditional Gundam unit and the Zaku unit belonging to Char Aznable, one of the main antagonists in Mobile Suit Gundam. Alongside each 4.1-inch unit also stands a mini Hello Kitty figurine dressed as Amuro and Char themselves.
Manufactured by Bandai Spirits, the attention to detail is what makes these figurines so highly coveted. The doll features light-up eyes that are able to emote, faux jet-boosters on the underside of its feet, and a detachable cockpit head in which the tiny Hello Kitty counterpart is able to fit.
Come July 2020, both figurines will be made available for purchase via Tamashii’s Webstore, going at ¥7480 (approx. S$94.45). Whether you’re a fan of the characters or not, I’m more than confident that the figurines will soon enough be valued as collectors’ items—a worthy investment regardless.
