The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Michael Jordan and RUN DMC — all these iconic influences in the streetwear culture is exactly what Deaththreadsvtg is celebrating at its monthly pop-up in a cosy retail space cum creative studio located in Tanjong Katong.
Vintage 1990s clothes and memorabilia are put up for sale at extremely reasonable prices for all you vintage enthusiasts and streetwear collectors.
The inconspicuous storefront is the entrance to a world stopped in the 1990s. Carrying infamous brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Polo by Ralph Lauren, Guess, Lacoste, Nike, Adidas and even Supreme.
If that doesn’t fit your profile, there’s even vintage band merch, headwear and the latest Yeezys in a limited quantity.
Deon, the mastermind behind the whole idea, started collecting everything vintage as part of a hobby. He scours the region in search of collectable pieces for both his personal collection as well as for future pop-ups.
He’ll get texts from his friends in different countries about a thrift find and if those pieces pass his cultured eye, it’ll soon be flying its way to our little red dot.
His personal collection is nothing to be scoffed at — from 1990s Supreme Bogos to tees from Akira, an Anime movie with a rabid cult following released in 1988.
With Guess and Adidas on the rise recently, the older pieces have become highly collectable and he strives to bring them in every month. He knows his stuff, trust me.
I was blown away at the selection in store; there was something for everyone. If you mess with that whole American aesthetic, there were sick Polo pieces and Tommy jumpers.
If you still rock those sportswear graphics from back in the day, there was a selection from Nike and Adidas too specially picked by Edmund, the 90’s sportswear connoisseur of the team .
The first iteration of the pop-up sold out of everything they had and now they’re hoping to expand into bigger things. With ideas of collaborations with other established retail stores, the guys at Deaththreadsvtg hope to provide differing experiences and stocks with each pop-up.
I left the pop-up excited and comforted, with an emptier wallet but light-hearted. It was only the third pop-up and you best believe I’ll be there for the next one too!
