They say a picture speaks a thousand words. In the age of smartphones, we use emojis as a way of communication and expression. Wouldn’t it be great if we could create mashups of existing emojis?
On 12 February 2020, Google released its first version of Emoji Kitchen that allows exactly that for Gboard users (Google’s keyboard for Android devices). As a faithful Apple user, I can only look at my Android-using friends with eyes of envy.
This new feature allows users to mix and match different emojis. After creating the unique emojis, you can apply them as stickers on various platforms like Gmail, Messenger, Snapchat, Telegram, and WhatsApp. Be careful not to unconsciously send the quirky ones to your clients and bosses.
Android users, do not be overly excited, not all combinations of emojis are possible as they are re-created based on an artificial intelligence system. This means emojis are not mashed up in real-time. Smileys variations are most likely possible, while the fire emoji, for example, has no possible combination presently.
For example, if I would like to show my obsession with money and the standard money-face emoji is insufficient, I can combine it with a red heart to give passionate punch to my customised emoji.
Be bold and experiment with the Emoji Kitchen by adding some cheeky and witty nuances. You can ditch your dictionary now.
