“You could take a little trip around Singapore town, in a Singapore city bus. To see Collyer Quay and Raffles Place, the Esplanade and all of us.”
What is quintessentially part of the Singaporean spirit are our neighbourhoods with each exuding their own personalities. Here’s a new way to rediscover our neighbourhoods with Arts In Your Neighbourhood—a National Arts Council initiative to bring the arts to your doorstep. Look forward to an amalgamation of arts with local flair as you experience the diverse line-up with your family and friends.
With 40 events to choose from, there’s definitely something for everyone. Close to half of the events are located in Bukit Panjang but fear not if the West is too far for you as events are held all over our sunny island. Here are some events that you cannot miss in this edition of Arts In Your Neighbourhood.
Experience a dynamic bus ride around Bukit Panjang with Java Dance Theatre as they perform their performance art piece—Back of the Bus. With sold-out shows in over 21 art festivals worldwide, this one-of-a-kind dance theatre show will make its debut in Singapore on 14 March 2020, with tickets going for only S$5 a pop.
Curated by ZERO (Zul Othman), The Outer Space is a street art trail around Bukit Panjang that engages participants through different activities to embrace the unknown and discover different narratives as they walk through the neighbourhood. Treat your eyes to works by Atomick, SYCO, TraseOne, and, SPAZ.
Now, this is quite a fascinating one—Podscape is a roving art piece and a podcast series by Shophouse & Co. This installation features a recording booth where you can record your stories and contribute to the six episodes podcast series. They also host interactive activities and a ‘community radio broadcast’ so you can forge your own memories in this unassuming public space.
The best thing about Arts In Your Neighbourhood is that all events except Back of The Bus are free. With so many multi-genre and multi-cultural art experiences, what excuse will you have to not attend and explore our culture-rich neighbourhoods?
