Some movies you tend to watch and forget the next day, while others will simply refuse to leave your mind for years. These are iconic movies with compelling main characters, gripping storylines, a cult following and a continued relevancy—also known as, cult classics.
Thanks to Netflix, these legendary flicks are available to watch anytime we want in HD. Here are 6 of my favourites.
1. Airplane! (1980)
Airplane! is the grandfather of modern day parodies. It’s ridiculous, it’s absurd and it’s guaranteed to leave you in stitches. This comedy classic is filled with puns and takes place onboard a flight that is bundled with calamities and hilarious tragedy.

2. American History X (1998)
This is a film that exposes the brutality and extremity of racist, right-wing neo-nazi skinheads in the USA by following the story of two brothers. It follows the life of Derek, a skinhead imprisoned for hate crimes, and how subsequent events made him change his views towards racism upon his release from prison.

4. The Warriors (1979)
This is a brilliant narrative that follows a New York City gang called The Warriors, who are wrongly implicated for the murder of New York’s most powerful gang leader. As a result, they have become public enemy number one to every other gang in New York, and have to make their way from one end of the city to another without being killed.

5. Clockwork Orange (1971)
A group of thugs, led by protagonist Alex, terrorise the streets of London with a spree of crimes born out of Alex’s interest for “ultra-violence”. When Alex is caught, the government puts him under an intense experiment, in an attempt to cure him of his violent tendencies. The movie leaves audiences guessing—was Alex finally cured?

6. Scarface (1983)
Set in 1980s Miami, Scarface is a classic rag-to-riches movie about a poor Cuban immigrant who eventually became a top druglord. Though controversial when it was released, it is now widely regarded as one of the best crime movies ever made in history and is definitely worth a watch.
