Plane tickets to France are expensive but plane tickets to Taiwan, not so much. If you’ve dreamed of running through the lavender fields in Provence, the yearly Mesona flower festival in Taoyuan City, Taiwan comes just as close.
The Taoyuan Mesona Flower Festival (TMFF) 桃園花彩節 in Yangmei district in Taoyuan City covers five hectares with lavenders in full bloom, starting on 23 November and concludes on 8 December 2019. The flower festival started in hopes to unite the community in revamping their agriculture to include leisure and fine agriculture.
Local community leaders also hope that short-term events such as TMFF will be able to draw visitors to the area, which evidently, have worked with thousands of camera-wielding tourists arriving during this season.
The exhibition consists of five different areas. Your friends will swoon when they see you in Dream Wonderland, where a sea of purple flowers has been planted in neat rows. The calming rows of purple may be the main attraction but stroll through the other exhibits in Fantasy Fairyland to see flowers arranged in an Alice in Wonderland theme. If you prefer brighter hues, Flowery Fairyland presents an installation with spring colours like red and yellow.
Bring home a souvenir from the Creative Market. Stalls are set up for local vendors to sell flowers and other agricultural products, or have fun with the DIY activities available. Yangmei District also has farms taking part in the Yangmei Leisure and Agriculture Area so make a date with nature and experience the rural life.
