International theatre, such as 1984 and Julius Caesar, has had its opportunity in the limelight here. Now, it’s time for Singapore’s contemporary theatre to shine, at Singapore Theatre Festival 2018.
Organised by W!LD RICE, the event will run from 5 – 22 July 2018 at LASALLE College of the Arts.
This year’s line-up includes eight brand-new plays, with plots ranging from exploring the tales of Sungei Road to the politics within a press office. Some of the highlights are Faghag, Press Gang and G.F.E.
G.F.E is short for Girl Friend Experience. This play tells a story of a man’s experience in the lorongs of geylang while he contemplates his existential crisis and former lovers. It contrasts a man’s conflict within himself, showing the schism of his actions and his values.
The playwright of G.F.E. Chong Boon Yong throws a thought-provoking question: Is the man really looking for a G.F.E… or is he trying to recover from one?
From depicting the snakes and politics in a corporate workspace to the handling of libellous news, playwright Tan Tarn How channels his years of experience as a former journalist into this dynamic work of art.
Two of the eight shows are already sold out so hurry!
