Keeping in line with customers’ changing needs and wants, the reopened Shell petrol station along Tampines Avenue 2 is the newest neighbourhood hangout spot to meet your kakis for a late-night meal.
The recent overhaul introduces new amenities such as an expanded Shell Select store that offers a greater variety of food and beverage options and a bicycle bay among others. However, nothing beats the appearance of two familiar golden arches from McDonald’s 24/7 Drive Thru.
We have all had our cravings for the crispy (or soggy) fries from McDonald’s but satisfying them may not be an easy task if ‘being a potato’ is what you often use to describe yourself. With the addition of a drive-through here, you can now refuel and satisfy those cravings all at the same time.
I’m lovin’ it indeed.
Although the concept isn’t novel and you can find a McDonald’s Drive Thru at several locations around Singapore, this is the first one to open in a petrol station. It doesn’t matter if you do not drive, there’s also a counter inside for walk-in customers too.
The expanded Shell Select store is also offering unique locally-inspired ice cream flavours such as Nanyang Brekkie as part of a collaboration with Wall’s. You can expect to find an in-store bakery called Deli by Shell as well, where mouthwatering pastries are baked fresh daily.
Breaking another record is the inclusion of the first bicycle bay in a Shell station aptly named ‘Take A Brake’. Poised to attract two-wheelers, this designated corner is where cyclists can well, take a break, park their bikes and fix a punctured tyre if needed.
Tampines is also known for its active cycling community due to its vast network of cycling paths that affords accessibility to key amenities such as the MRT station and town centre. Riding on this, the bay hopes to serve cyclists in need of minor repairs while traversing through.
One other unique feature here is the appearance of a newspaper vending machine by Singapore Press Holdings that gives readers even greater access to news on the go. No cash? Don’t fret ’cause you can even pay using your EZ-Link card.
Although POPStations are pretty common in Singapore, you seldom see them in petrol stations unless it’s one that has been zeng-ed up to this degree.
To round it all off, there is an air-conditioned lounge for drivers and riders to rest and charge their phones before heading off. Continuously celebrating the fine art of idling (productively), we can now nua at home, nua in town and even nua in a petrol station. Shell really up their game sia.

Apart from refuelling, you can also fuel-up at McDonald’s or the expanded Shell Select store, ‘take a brake’, get your daily news, collect a parcel and charge your phone while lounging in comfort all in a single place! I haven’t even included the usual AXS and ATM machines yet.
Residents of Tampines, forget the multi-concept stores that have been sprouting up – this revamped Shell is a multi-concept petrol station that’s right at your doorstep. In the meantime, I shall patiently wait for the Shell stations in the West to get their level-up too.
