Komars Group launched their second outlet of Moomin Dry Head Massage and its first White30 DIY Teeth Whitening Salon in Funan Mall. I was lucky enough to be invited to experience these treatments, the former being highly popular in Japan with a waiting list of over 400,000 people every month. Here is what I experienced first-hand.
The Space
Tucked away in Basement one of the newly revamped Funan Mall, Moomin Dry Head Massage and White30 share the same shopfront. It is a cosy little space amongst the many bustling eateries and shops on the same floor. Don’t be fooled by its small exterior, as here is where the magic happens.

Moomin and White30 house only three rooms in the store, two of which being massage rooms and the last one being the teeth whitening salon. Each room has a fully reclinable chair to help you relax. There will be no one else except for you and your therapist in the same room as you, making it an incredibly private affair.
The massage rooms are dimly lit, with soothing music playing in the background. The room is carefully designed to help soothe the soul.
The teeth whitening salon, on the other hand, is brightly lit. Thankfully, it did not resemble the dreaded dentist office too much as there was a lack of menacing tools.
Japanese -style Dry Head Massage
We tried a 10-minute session of the dry head massage first. What is a dry head massage, you might ask?
First of all, a dry massage is one that does not use any oils or liquids of the sort that will leave you feeling oily and in need of a shower right after the massage. Do note that as its name suggests, the massage is only done on the head and shoulders. This dry head massage is designed to help you relax and have a better sleep at night.
Before the massage begins, the chair will recline until you are almost lying flat. You are also given a comfortable blanket to keep you warm.
The skilled masseuse will then wrap your head in a towel and begin working her magic. In 10 minutes, you can feel all the tension in your head disappear and your worries along with it. After the massage, you will wake up (if you fell asleep) rejuvenated and extremely relaxed.
Personally, a 10-minute duration was too short for me to fall asleep, but I did leave feeling refreshed. My colleague, who tried the massage as well, said that if it had gone on for another five minutes, he would have definitely fallen asleep.
Don’t worry, if you decide to go for this massage, you won’t be getting just a 10-minute sample session like us. You can get a full 30-minute session for S$38 nett, and S$58 nett for a 50-minute session. If 10 minutes can already make us loose like a noodle, who knows how you’ll feel after 50 minutes.
Teeth Whitening
Being a caffeine junkie with extremely stained teeth from coffee, I was excited to try White30’s DIY teeth whitening treatment. White30 prides itself on the use of its inorganic compounds in their teeth whitening, as compared to other places.
According to Moomin’s staff, there are no dietary requirements after the treatment as well, so feel free to indulge in your favourite food right after the treatment. A session is usually 30 minutes for S$58 nett, but I was fortunate enough to try out a introductory 20-minute session.
Before the treatment begins, you are given a toothbrush and toothpaste to brush your teeth. Your lips will also have to be coated with Vaseline to protect them from the LED light.
You will then be given a mouth widener to help expose your teeth so you can apply White30’s signature paste all over your teeth.
After this is done, you will then sit comfortably in your chair as a LED light is shone into your teeth for a good 10 minutes. I must add that this is not a very comfortable process, with your mouth being stretched out and feeling the warmth of the light.
After the first 10 minutes, I was made to brush my teeth again, this time without any toothpaste. I then coated my teeth again with their solution and sat under the light for yet another 10 minutes. Below are the results, unedited:
It is amazing what just 20 minutes already did to my teeth which I originally thought were ruined beyond recognition. 30 minutes might just blind you.
Is Moomin Worth The Treat?

I left Funan Mall a new man with my body feeling relaxed and my teeth whitened. 10 minutes was enough time for us to see how these treatments are useful especially in a place like Singapore where we hardly have time to properly pamper ourselves.
S$38 and S$58 may seem a little steep at first glance, but considering how effective these treatments were, there’s really no harm to #treatyourself.
