Mario Kart is FINALLY going to be available on smartphones! Specially for smartphones, Mario Kart Tour is rumoured to be released in the third quarter of 2019 since its development announcement in 2018.

Nintendo hasn’t officially shared much other than hinting at a summer 2019 release, but as with good games, development delays are a real possibility.
Fortunately, Mario Kart Tour has been released in Closed Beta on Android since mid-2019 and there have been user-contributed screenshots of the gameplay you can expect.

Here’s what we can tell from the Closed Beta gameplay:
- The game is played vertically
- Kart acceleration is on by default
- Swipe to execute moves
- Two laps per race
- Unlocking new characters are via a random draw
- Items you can hold depends on the character and track (characters have special items too)
- Online multiplayer is supported

Our guess is that the game will be free to download with access to the first few levels – similar to Super Mario Run. Extra levels or additional characters, tracks and karts will come at a price via in-game microtransactions.
The game includes a large variety of characters from the Super Mario franchise including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, Rosalina, Waluigi, and Baby Peach.

We know this mobile game is most definitely going to be on Android since the beta tests are done there, but whether Apple users will be able to play Mario Kart Tour or not remains unknown.

Many of us grew up playing Mario Kart. Last time I played the game was back in 2009 when my baby pink Nintendo DS still worked. I can’t tell you how excited I am to play Mario Kart Tour on my smartphone.
