As more and more people flock to Tampines, three malls in the neighbourhood just aren’t quite enough anymore.
Enter Our Tampines Hub, a first-of-its-kind integrated community and lifestyle shopping mall. Ah, once again, Tampines is proving itself to be quite the self-sustaining town.
Conceptualised with 15,000 Tampines residents in mind, Our Tampines Hub is a project designed by residents, for residents.
To say the mall is huge is an understatement. But here are a few things that we have discovered that you can do/see when you visit:
1. Get Your Nerd On At Its Huge Library
The newly-furbished Tampines Regional Library spans an impressive five stories, with facilities catered for all age groups. I was really impressed with the whole layout and how spacious it is. A stark contrast to the old Tampines Library for those who have visited before.
At level two, vibrant colours and low shelves demarcate the children’s section of the library.
While a monochromatic tone decks out the teen section at level four, making it a contemporary space.
Level five and six are catered towards young adults and adults with study pods and comfy sofa seats. With such new and modern facilities, throngs of people have already paid their visit to the revamped library be it for study or leisure reading.
Word of advice: if you would like to secure a good seat, be here when the door opens at 10am!
Opening Hours: 10am – 9pm (Daily)
Tampines Regional Library: 1 Tampines Walk, #02-01, Singapore 529684 | Website | Tel: +65 6332 3255
2. Test Your Agility With Laser Quests & Rock Climbing by HomeTeamNS
While most people opt to travel all the way to Johor Bahru for laser tag, I prefer staying closer to home. And with HomeTeamNS’s all-new multi-sensory arena, it promises the same amount of fun right here in Singapore!
Take your pick with over ten specialised missions to choose from, or just try them all. The arena accommodates two to 20 pax so it’s time to plan an outing with all your friends here.
Situated right next to the Laser Tag arena, Clip ‘n Climb is an adaptation of New Zealand’s Clip ‘n Climb theme park. A crossover between sports climbing and the amusement industry, it features a whopping 19 different climbing challenges that you can take on.
Also, in recognition of the efforts of our NSmen, HomeTeamNS offers exclusive membership privileges for all NSmen and their families. Do come in covered shoes and comfortable sports attire if you’re planning to climb!
You can book your preferred time slot to secure a spot.
Opening Hours: 12pm – 9pm (Mon to Thurs), 10am – 11pm (Fri, Sat, eve of PH), 10am – 9pm (Sun, PH)
HomeTeamNS: 1 Tampines Walk #03-03, Singapore 528523 | Website | Tel: +65 6705 9410
3. Take A Dip In Rooftop Swimming Pools
With the closure of Tampines Swimming Complex, Tampines Hub is proud to present to you not one, but six new rooftop pools.
Yes, the pools are on the highest floor of the mall and while Tampines HUB is no MBS, you can still get a feel of how it’s like swimming way up above ground level.
The gym is also fully equipped and overlooks the swimming pool. So you can run on the treadmill and people watch at the same time *smiles*.
Opening Hours: 6.30am – 9.30pm (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun), 8am – 9.30pm (Thurs, Sat & PH), Closed on Tuesdays
4. Clock In Those Miles At The Sheltered Running Track
Itching for a run but not too keen on the sun? Well, the sheltered running track @Tampines Hub allows you to clock in those miles without baking under the sun. Each round spans a distance of 1.1km around the fifth level of the mall, and the tracks are new so they are still really nice and cushiony.
Lockers are also provided free-of-charge so you need not worry about leaving your valuables somewhere unattended. A pretty good alternative to consider if the treadmills in the gym get too packed!
Opening Hours: 7am – 12am (Daily)
5. Score Some Strikes In This 30-Lane Bowling Alley
Introducing BOWLING+ @Tampines Hub, a whole bowling alley guaranteed to bowl you away. With 30-lanes, it is the largest bowling alley in Tampines and one of the largest in the East.
Instead of the conventional way of charging per game, rates here are priced per hour per lane. So if you do your math a little, it’s definitely the more the merrier.
Opening Hours: 10am – 1am (Sun to Thurs), 10am – 3am (Fri & Sat)
Orchid Bowl, BOWLING+: Our Tampines Hub, #B1-48/49/50 | Website
6. Dine At A Modern Hawker Centre
This hawker centre by Kopitiam is an 800-seater food haven, housing over 40 stalls with several that are open 24 hours. Unlike regular hawker centres, the stalls here run on a not-for-profit-basis. As a result, each stall has at least 2 items on the menu going for only $2.80.
Furthermore, in light of our transition to a cashless society, each stall has its own self-cash payment machine to shorten queues and minimise waiting times.
Could it be an upcoming potential budget supper place for Easties? You decide!
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (most stalls), 24 hours (selected stalls)
7. Catch Live Music & Free Movie Screenings At The Festive Plaza
This huge TV screen and stage lies in the heart of the festive plaza right smack in the middle of Tampines Hub. It is notably the most prominent feature of the hub and one of the first few things patrons would notice.
All through the day, music videos are played on the large screen, which really enlivens the whole place, giving the hub a joyous, festive feel. In the evening, local musicians take to the stage to perform and at 8pm every night, free movies are screened as well!
8. Check Out Its Huge Football Stadium
For all you soccer enthusiasts, the hub has its very own football stadium! The 5,000-seater stadium with a FIFA-endorsed Quality Pro football pitch is an ideal turf for both football and rugby matches. Once in a while, big matches are also held here for viewers to spectate.
For bookings and match schedules, do check out the hub’s website and Facebook page.
9. Sing Your Hearts Out At Teo Heng KTV Studio
Last but not least, featuring everyone’s favourite Karaoke joint, Teo Heng. Known for its relatively cheaper pricing, this karaoke joint has seen countless gatherings and parties all over Singapore. I, for one, am a loyal patron of the franchise.
Which is why I’m thrilled that they have finally opened an outlet in the East (Katong doesn’t really count)! With a majority of its outlets based in Central and the West, Easties can now belt out to their favourite tunes without travelling across the island.
Do not rely on walk-ins though. The place is usually packed so if you’re heading over, do make a reservation with them beforehand.
Opening Hours: 1pm – 1am (Mon to Fri), 12pm – 2am (Sat), 12pm – 1am (Sun)
TeoHengKTV: 1 Tampines Ave 4, #05-32, Singapore 528523 | Tel: +65 6844 9336 | Website
