From 13 to 22 March 2020, The Arts House presents the third edition of its trademark literary arts festival. Co-commissioned by The Arts House and #BuySingLit (Singapore’s literary movement), and supported by National Arts Council, The Arts House presents Textures 2020: A Weekend with Words. This year’s theme “These Storied Walls” celebrates local narratives by Singapore writers, artists and performers.
One key feature of this year’s event is the use of engaging mediums, such as VR experiences and audio-visual exhibitions. Visitors, get ready to be transported into a different realm of words, leave you feeling surreally whimsical by the various expressions.
Whether you plan to visit Textures 2020 as a lone ranger or with your family and friends, there are numerous activities lined up. At the Book Clinic station, feel free to chat with the “doctors” (played by Singaporean writers and publishers) who will “prescribe” SingLit books for you based on your mood.
Do you need a quiet moment? Take a stroll in the Film Gallery, but do not be alarmed if you hear murmurings against the walls. They are the recorded voices of our friendly literary community. Listen closely as they recite their favourite text from the SingLit books.
Kid-friendly activities are also available. The wide array of activities ranged from traditional games to traditional food-making like ketupat-making and role-playing in the traditional costumes, such as Redhead Scarf (otherwise known as Samsui women).
