9 April 2020 is an important date for all James Bond fans. Besides celebrating the release of the James Bond film series, No Time to Die, it also marks Daniel Craig’s fifth and final appearance as the fictional agent 007.
This year marks the 58th year of the 007 films. To commemorate close to six good decades of “My name is Bond, James Bond”, Swatch is releasing a Q-inspired watch. Q, if you’re not already familiar, is Bond’s gadget-saviour and also the passing character who casually gave Bond his flashy Aston Martin.
This is not the first time Swatch has worked with the 007 franchise. In a previous collaboration, the Swiss watchmaker created six exclusive models designed around the missions of each movie while still retaining the flavour of Swatch’s street chic aesthetic.
Unlike the previous iterations, the current open watch face boasts an elaborate mosaic mechanism, yet does not appear too overly edgy for the conservative fashionista. Edged with frosted stainless steel and paired with a brown leather strap, this watch effortlessly complements almost any outfit.
Designed with the movie’s costume designer, Suttirat Anne Larlarb, Swatch’s next inspired piece reflects Q’s quintessential intellectual look. Clad in his shirt, four-in-hand knot tucked beneath the knitted cardigan, and paired with gingham check trousers, the timepiece brings that complete head-to-toe style in a wristwear.
The Q drop is available on 5 March 2020 and can be purchased from the Swatch website.
