It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, I don’t mean Christmas, I’m talking about Chinese New Year!
Usher in the year of the rat in style with New Balance’s latest rodent drop, the Year Of The Rat Pack featuring 3 Made In UK models – 1500, 670 and 577.
This latest version of Made In UK 1500 takes after the jet black rat with the silhouette of retro New Balances from the 80s and early 90s. Like every New Balance shoe, the Year of Rat Pack 1500 is carefully engineered with a premium pigskin upper, on top a classic ENCAP Eva-cushioned midsole.
The beauty of this shoe lies in its details, all three models in this collection feature an image of a rat underside the tongue of the shoe, with the rat colour correlating with the main colour of the shoe. The Year of Rat Pack 1500 (S$289) is in a versatile black body with brown and white accents, suitable for any occasion.
The second shoe in this collection is the Made In UK 67o Year Of The Rat (S$259). This neutral-toned, luxurious nubuck and pigskin 670 comprises a mostly multi-shade grey body with hues of pink accents as inspired by the husky rat. Comfortability is ensured with the classic Vibram® outsole for your travels as you go visiting this Chinese New Year.
The third of the trio is the Made In UK 577 Year Of The Rat. The sneaker features a pigskin upper in shades of blue with pink and white details, giving the shoe a sporty chic look. New Balance’s are made for walking and the 577 Year Of The Rat is no different with its classic ENCAP sole, providing superior underfoot comfort.
Other than rats featured under the tongues of these kicks, the soles of this collection are of a bright red ang bao colour with gold lettering. Both soles side by side makes up the year 2020. The left sole has the phrase ‘Year of the Rat’ and the right sole reads ‘鼠年’, the Mandarin translation of the left sole.
This Chinese New Year collection is definitely unique and an interesting way to start off the year of the rat. I would absolutely recommend rat year babies to commemorate their year with this collection.
