Lauded for his breathtaking photography, Yik Keat, or better known as Yk, is a talented photographer born and bred in the sunny shores of Singapore. The signature moody, teal tones of his photographs are what makes his work so distinct and well-loved by many.
Just last year, he toured with and photographed American pop singer, Lauv, and has had other collaboration opportunities with ULTRA Singapore, ULTRA Japan, Adidas, and more.
This week, Yk tells us the five soundtracks of his life.
Tell us your name, and how you’d describe yourself to someone whom you’re meeting for the first time.
My name is Yik Keat or as everyone calls me YK. I would say I’m super chill and people always tell me I have a calming effect on them.
What are the five tracks of your life?
1. Stranger Things – Kygo
2. Withering Flower – Phelian
3. Reverie – Illenium
4. Sea Of Voices – Porter Robinson
5. Breathe – Lauv
Why would you consider this playlist to be significant to you?
These tracks are clear indicators of my photography and personal timeline where there are significant achievements and disappointments.
Pick one track and tell me your fondest/most interesting memory of it.
I would say Lauv’s Breathe as I was literally editing that song for the tour recap that I just finished with him at that period. My emotions were pretty mixed as I felt really accomplished to be able to photograph music which is a dream of mine, but at that time I was pretty unstable in person and had lots of things running through my mind.
If I had asked you this question 10 years ago, what is the one track that your then-self would have picked as your favourite?
I would have to say Armin Van Buuren’s In And Out Of Love, it was at that track in time where I discovered my love for electronic music and didn’t even had the thought that I would be able to combine music and photography, both my passion together and make a living out of it.
