Facebook has announced an all-new virtual reality multi-player experience with the Horizon.

Launching in early 2020 in closed beta, Facebook Horizon will allow those with an Oculus platform to build your own world and interact with your Facebook friends through user-generated landscapes and games— just like the Sims game, but in virtual reality first-person.

If you would like to be one of the first users of Facebook Horizon, you can register for the closed beta here.

There will be a huge range of customisation with Facebook Horizon. Users will be able to choose how their avatar looks like from an extensive wardrobe of clothes and accessories, and they will be able to use the Horizon World Builder to create anything from holiday destinations to architecture—the possibilities are endless.
This is not Facebook’s first venture into virtual reality— Oculus Rooms and Spaces were launched in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Oculus Rooms served only as a private space for users to decorate, while the latter lets users chat, watch movies and play VR games. The Horizon is a huge step up, with it essentially being a sandbox universe.
